“God’s Work. Our Hands.”

“God’s Work. Our Hands.” is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.  On this Sunday, September 13, 2015, congregations across the United States participated through various activities and left great impact upon their local communities through acts of service in the name of Christ.

This year, St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Olean, joined the growing list of congregations participating in “God’s Work. Our Hands.” St. Paul Olean has planned multiple projects to address needs within our community.

On Saturday, September 12, we began a collection drive for two organizations – South Ripley Community Schools and Back Door Friends of Faith.  At the local Farmers Market held on the Town Square, we had a booth where members of the community could meet us at a public space, drop off donations of winter clothing, school supplies, and toiletries, and get to know the people of St. Paul Olean.  As part of this day, visitors to our booth were also offered the opportunity to create no-sew fleece hats to be donated to Back Door Friends of Faith.

While things were happening on the Square, Team Courage participated in the annual American Heart Association Heart Walk in honor and in memory of all our loved ones affected by heart disease and stroke.

After worship service and a pitch-in lunch on September 13, we worked along a four-mile stretch of Indiana State Road 129 to pick up trash.  The garbage collected far exceeded the space in the church’s dumpster!

During this week, we will continue to collect items for our annual rummage sale which is scheduled for Saturday, September 19. This event provides a loving outreach to our community – a way for us to be an ever-positive presence in our community and to spread God’s word.

Looking forward, St. Paul Olean will be participating – as we have for many years – in the annual Ripley County CROP Hunger Walk scheduled for October 4.
