Lawrence W. Green, 101, of Versailles

Lawrence W. Green, 101, of Versailles passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born near Cross Plains on September 10, 1912 the son of John and Anna West Green. He was married to Mari Jo Maxwell on April 23, 1938 and she preceded him in death on July 12, 1989. Survivors include two sons John (Phyllis) Green of Cincinnati, and David (Ruth) Green of Versailles; 5 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother Howard Green. Mr. Green was a 1930 graduate of Versailles High School. He farmed his entire life and was a former employee of Guide Lamp in Anderson and the Versailles ASCS office. Lawrence was a member of and served in several capacities at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean. He was also a 63 year member of the Versailles Lions Club where he was given a lifetime membership and also received the W. P. Woods Award. He was a member and past president of the Ripley County Farm Bureau, a past director for the Ripley County Farm Bureau Co-op, had served on the Ripley County Election Board, and was a member of the first Ripley County Planning Commission. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 28th at 11am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean with Pastor Dennis Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to the Improvement Fund of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Lawrence Green Scholarship, or the Activities Fund at Ripley Crossing in care of the funeral home.
