Cheryll and I were honored to attend the Ordination of Pastor William Curtis Black at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Portsmouth, Virginia yesterday.
We arrived safely in Virginia on Saturday evening and were welcomed into the home of Pastor Black’s parents, Ron and Joyce Black, for a wonderful dinner and a delightful evening with his family.
On Sunday morning, we attended worship service at St. Andrew and enjoyed meeting members of the congregation that played a significant role in Pastor Black’s life as he was growing up.
The Ordination Service, officiated by Bishop William Gafkjen of the Indiana Kentucky Synod, was held at 3:00 in the afternoon and was very well attended. We were again blessed with a warm welcome and I (nervously) was a part of the service by reading a couple of verses from scripture. I was very humbled and honored by Pastor Black’s request that I play a role in his Ordination.
Following the Ordination service, the congregation at St. Andrew hosted a reception for the newly ordained Pastor.
We wish Pastor Black and Mandy the best as he enters God’s service and as they embark on their service at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Olean. We anticipate their arrival in Olean sometime during the first few days in September. Pastor Black will conduct his first worship service on Sunday, September 7.
