Funeral Services for Friend of St. Paul’s, John A. Halford

John A. Halford, 73, of Olean passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his home. He was born in Tetbury Gloustershire, England on April 22, 1941 the son of Andrew McIver Halford and Helen Saunders Halford. He was married to Patricia Curran in Glendale, California on June 11, 1966 and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters Rebecca (Rick) Brown, and Judy (Chris) Hoban both of Columbus, Ohio; 6 grandchildren; his father-in-law Freeman Curran of Olean; three sisters Margaret Halford of Berthoud, Colorado, Geraldine (Chris) Bayley of Wales, and Gaye (Ross) Beath of Australia; one brother Phillip (Linda) Halford of Hertfordshire, England. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Robert Halford. Mr. Halford received his BA degree in theology from Ambassador University in Pasadena, California in 1966. From 1966 to 2014 he was a minister for Grace Communion International, pastoring churches in Australia and Asia. He also served as their Regional Director in Europe and was editor of the Christian Odyssey Magazine. John was a member of the Christ International Church in Cincinnati, the Versailles Lions Club, and the South Ripley Ministerial Association. In his past time, he enjoyed building model trains. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 25th at 11am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean with Pastor Rick Shallenberger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Saturday at the church. The Versailles Lions Club will conduct memorial services Friday at 8pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the CFC-Haiti, St. Paul Cemetery, or the Versailles Lions Club in care of the funeral home.

Funeral Services for Alta Diem

Alta R. Diem, 99, of Cross Plains passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. She was born near New Marion on August 19, 1915 the daughter of Emmett and Grace Caster Robinson. She was married to Henry Diem on December 23, 1933 and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1998. Survivors include two sons David (Vicki) Diem of Versailles and Tony (Shirley) Diem of Cross Plains; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister Ina Sininger of Hamilton, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her parents, infant son John, her brother Arza Robinson and her sister Edith Benham. Mrs. Diem was a homemaker and along with her husband owned and operated a dairy farm where they milked jersey cows. Alta was an 80 year member of the St .Paul Lutheran Church at Olean where she participated in the Martha Circle. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15th at 11am at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Olean with Pastor Curtis Black officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be Sunday from 5pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
